Obituary of Hal Joseph Rogers, Glace Bay

With broken hearts we announce that on Sunday, November 6th, 2022 our hero, Hal Joseph Rogers, age 70 passed away peacefully at home with his wife Mary-Ann by his side. Hal fought a short but courageous battle with melanoma cancer.

Born in Glace Bay and raised in Table Head, he was the son of the late Charles and Dorothy (Gabriel) Rogers.

Hal lived for 9 years in New Market, Ontario and worked at Woodoor Window Manufactures. One day he decided he had enough of the big city and he wanted to return to his beloved Cape Breton Island. Shortly after his return, Hal started working for Purolator, a career which lasted for 35 years. He loved his job and all the great co-workers and friends he made during his career. Hal greatly enjoyed all the good times they shared together.

Hal is survived by the love of his life, his wife Mary-Ann (McGrath) Rogers, his daughter, Megan “Winnie” (Mark) Della Valle, precious grandchildren- his birthday gifts, Rhyann, Eliana and his twins, “Poppy’s only little boy”, Luca and Briella, “His snuggle bug.” He loved every minute he spent with his family, “We will always cherish the many memories we have made.”

He is survived by his siblings, Bea, Charlie, Ritzie (Chris), Keith, Gail (Jim), Brent (Eleanor), numerous nieces, nephews and their families, special grand nephew godson, Bailey Allison and numerous cousins.

Also surviving are in laws, Libby (Jude Butts), Jackie (Peter) Smille, Catherine (Eric) Syms and the entire McGrath Clan. Hal had his own special little angel whom he loved like a daughter, Sara-Beth Anne Forbes.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Patsy (Tip), niece, Gracie Doran, brother, Tom, brother in law, Terry, sisters in law, Sissie and Karen, father in law and good friend, Doe McGrath and his wife, Helen, brother in law, Bruce and niece, Amber Butts.

Cremation has taken place. The funeral service officiated by Fr. Norman MacPhee is Saturday, November 26th, 2022 at 11 a.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay.

As an expression of sympathy for Hal, memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Glace Bay Hospital, 3rd Floor- 3 West, care of John McIntyre (Mgr.).
