Obituary of John Joseph Roach, New Waterford;Halifax

We very sadly announce the passing of our brother, John Joseph Roach, 66 yrs, of Halifax, NS.

John grew up in New Waterford and is predeceased by his parents, Joseph A.Roach MD (2005) and Helen (MacDonald) Roach (2016). He graduated from Breton Education Centre and then studied at St. F.X. where he graduated with a BSc. in Biology. John worked for a company doing research in this discipline for a time, but during a trip to the slopes of western B.C., John decided to stay and to ski. He eventually became an accredited ski instructor and ski coach. John enjoyed doing these jobs for a number of years at Whistler B.C. His brother says that he can attest to John’s skill at maneuvering down the difficult slopes on the upper reaches of that mountain. When John moved back to Nova Scotia he continued to work as a ski instructor and also worked in retail sales. John had a quiet Irish wit and was a smart and thoughtful man.

He is survived by his sisters, Cecilia M. Roach, Halifax, Mary E.(George) Lerikos, Antigonish, by his brother Patrick Roach, Halifax and by his nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. Family mass at St. Agnes Church, Halifax has taken place. Celebration of Life has taken place. Burial to take place at Mount Carmel Cemetery in New Waterford at a later date.
