Eleanor Lewis, Scotchtown

Obituary of Eleanor Marie Lewis, Scotchtown

In loving memory of our wonderful mother Eleanor Lewis of Scotchtown, and New Waterford.

Eleanor was an extraordinary woman who would never see anyone go hungry or cold. She filled her yard with magical trees, flowers, birds and her dog Mounouk. In her yard the sun always shone, and the moon was always bright. There was always extra food and water for the wild birds. Eleanor loved to swim, dance, sew, paint but most of all she liked to work; work was her cure for everything. So often she spoke of her times working in Toronto…the hustle and bustle of the city; those times always made her feel alive and proud even in her memories.

Everyone who knew her remembers her in her yard stacking wood, gardening and repairing her fence. Eleanor was always eager to hear new plans and ideas; she was something like a mentor for her family and friends. This made everyone feel very loved and protected; she was somewhat of a “keeper” to her family. Character traits that live in us through her are determination, confidence, manners, and class. Eleanor loved the summer and would wait all winter to dig in her flower bed and bring it to life. She always knew when it was time for strength and time for tenderness. Eleanor knew people better than they knew themselves.

Eleanor is survived by her two daughters, Diane Lewis McNeil, Helen Lewis Blackburn (Leo); granddaughters, Victoria Anne Lewis McNeil, Nicole Rayonie Lewis McNeil; grandsons, Jesse Lewis Blackburn, Guillaume Lewis Blackburn; great-grandson, Otis Eady, who thought Nanny Eleanor was hilarious.

She was predeceased by her husband, George ‘Buster’ Lewis; mother, Stella Musial; father, James Travaline; sisters, Claudia, and Elsie Travaline; brothers, Albert, and Ronnie Travaline.

Until our next feast, we remember our cherished mother, grandmother, and friend.

The sparkle in her eyes like the light of the moon, determination that would make waves in the ocean.
