Obituary of Arlene (Clements) MacKeigan, Birch Grove
It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Arlene Emmelyn MacKeigan, on Jan. 4, 2024, at the Cove Guest Home, Sydney.
Mom was born in Donkin, Cape Breton, on March 9, 1932, to parents Charles and Lily (Kennedy) Clements and she was raised on the family farm in Waddens Cove, C.B.
For most of her married life she resided in Birch Grove, C.B. and in March, 2016, she moved to the Cove Guest Home. Mom was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was predeceased by her husband Dennis in 2014 and by brothers Ellsworth and wife Jeanette, Delbert and wife Isabel, Wayne and wife Helen, Marvin, Lonnie and a sister in infancy.
She is survived by daughter Wendy (Ken Peach), son Dennis Wayne and grandchildren Natasha, Noelle, and Dennis (Taylor).
She was also great grandmother to Lexi, Dennis, Scarlett and Ivy. Mom is also survived by sisters-in-law Sylvia Clements, Christine MacKeigan and brother-in-law George MacKeigan as well as many nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to George for his continued support of our mom after the death of our father and his numerous visits, with treats in hand, to see Mom at the Cove. Her sister-in-law Christine also often visited Mom and called frequently to ask about her.
We must also thank the wonderful staff at the Cove Guest Home who were so kind to Mom. To Janice and her team for helping us adjust to life at the Cove and the journey we would take as Mom's dementia deepened and to the staff on Skylight who were there to offer support until the end, we are most grateful.
If you would like to make a donation in Arlene’s name, it can be made to The Cove Guest Home, St. Paul’s Church (Port Morien), or a charity of your choice.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 10th from 9:30 am until the time of the service at 11 am in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home , 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. Lay Anglican Minister Annie MacQueen presiding. Burial in St. Paul's Anglican Cemetery, Homeville.
